About The Message
Greater Manchester is home to half a million young people under the age of 18. The vast majority of them know nothing about the love which God has shown the world through Jesus. Many live in neglected inner city communities and poorly planned council estates suffering from low quality housing, high crime and a host of other social problems. Without God there's precious little hope in these urban wastelands.
The work of The Message began with a vision to see young people come to know Jesus, trusting that through their transformed lives their communities would be restored. All our projects involve a unique fusion of Word and Deed. As a team of staff and volunteers we find great encouragement in God's word, trusting that He really will bring life to our barren communities. Listen to the poetic promise He makes in Isaiah 43:
"See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."
We have been thrilled by the amazing things we've seen since our first dance music band 'The World Wide Message Tribe' was formed in 1991. They pioneered a new way of presenting the Christian faith to young people in high schools which many are now imitating. Over the years we have seen thousands committing their lives to God. In the last 8 years, through the award-winning EDEN youth projects we have started to witness whole communities being positively and permanently impacted by the power of God. The lasting fruit of our ministry is proof that Gospel works. Bit by bit we are seeing real change in the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester.
We really believe that God is now taking our ministry to a new level. There are now nine EDEN projects in some of the city's most challenging urban areas, and two EDEN buses out on the streets pretty much every night of the week. Our regular worship event, SPACE, continues to attract around 2000 young people at each event with increasing numbers of young people responding to Jesus. GENETIK - The Tribe Academy is training and equipping young people to combine compassion and creativity to reach out to the next generation.
We believe the new BIG DEAL initiative, piloted this year in Salford, has been a major step forward towards our dream of seeing every young person in the region getting an opportunity to hear about Jesus, and a chance to grow in their faith in a vibrant local church. We want to see the transforming effect of the gospel - crime coming down and communities restored - across the whole city. This is an exciting time for us and we need your support more than ever.
